Bistritsa is located in Western Bulgaria, in the slope of the Vitosha Mountain and 10km south from Sofia. The fresh mountain air, the beautiful nature, the convenient transport links, communications and the proximity to the capital city make the village an attractive place ot live and relax.

Above Bistritsa there is a natural reserve, Bistirshko Branishte, one of the first reserves in Bulgaria, which was proclaimed a protected area in 1934. Two rivers cross the village – the Yanchovska river and the Stara river. They flow together into the Gabeshnitsa river which is one of the tributaries of the Iskar. Above Bistritsa one can visit the Rila waterfall along whose way there is a tourist path called the “Channel” – a lovely route with amazing views, connecting Bistritsa with Zheleznitsa, Simeonovo, as well as Aleko and Cherni Vrah along one of numerous paths.
